Starting this weekend, the turkey spring hunting season will begin across the state for all hunters. The spring gobbler season kicks off on May 3 and will conclude almost a month later on the 31st. Last year in the spring season, 3,873 birds were taken statewide. It’s not the only time of the year to get out and hunt Turkeys though. For three months in the fall, the autumn archery season takes place from September 15 to December 15, as well as a fall shotgun opportunity in many WMUs.
According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Wildlife department, “All turkey hunters, including those under 16 years of age, must purchase a turkey license. All hunters, 16 years of age or older, must also possess a valid hunting or archery license.
A turkey license allows a turkey hunter to take one (1) bearded or male turkey during the spring season and one (1) fall turkey of either sex during the fall archery turkey season OR during the fall shotgun turkey season, where permitted.”
We definitely recommend familiarizing yourself with the rules and regulations of turkey season if you’re new to that style of hunting. For instance, it is against the law to kill hen turkeys during the spring. Unless they are bearded hens.
